I-FHPE/FHPE Certificate Programs

The Introduction to Foundations in Health Professions Education (I-FHPE) and the Foundations in Health Professions Education (FHPE) certificates are meant for individuals who wish to enhance their skills in leadership, research, and teaching. They are also stepping stones toward the MHPE, MEd-HPE, and PhD in HPE, and result in graduate school credits. Based on the certificate pursued, the expectation for completion on a part-time basis is within six months for the I-FHPE and one year for the FHPE.

HPE certificates are primarily designed for individuals who hold academic leadership positions, or are planning to a leadership career in the health professions (medicine, dentistry, nursing, and other allied health professions like psychology or physical therapy) within the uniformed services, although the content is also relevant to all individuals engaged in the education of health professionals.

HPE certificates and degrees are targeted for core clinical and basic science teachers and directors of courses, clerkships, residencies, and fellowships, as well as vice chairs, chairs, and other administrative leaders in HPE (e.g., deans and research directors). Matriculates may include, but are not limited to, medical students, residents, graduate students, physicians, dentists, nurses, pharmacists, physician assistants, physical therapists, optometrists, or those that are committed to working with health professionals as a career (e.g., executive administrators) and who wish to apply the core disciplines of education, cutting-edge research, and leadership to their career field. Uniformed personnel with experience as a health professional and applicants who have a Master or Doctorate degree are given priority for admission. Individuals with bachelor degrees will be considered on a case-by-case basis.
